Cafe-hunting in Penang: Macallum Connoisseurs Coffee Company

I will be starting this series on my blog entitled "Cafe-hunting in Penang", and hopefully I visit enough cafes to keep this series going! :) I had actually reviewed another cafe called Budan's Brew Coffeebar sometime back, and you can read it here.

I am not receiving any incentive for writing this series, and all opinions here are entirely my own. These are also not comprehensive reviews as I will only write based on what I experienced for myself. Also, I am not a coffee drinker, so unfortunately I won't be reviewing the coffee at these cafes, but more of the food and the ambience.

Okay, enough of the disclaimers! First on my list is Macallum Connoisseurs on Gat Lebuh Macallum here in Georgetown. It has been around for a while, and what used to be an old timber factory (I think) is now a cafe cum roastery cum coffee academy. As the space is huge, there is plenty of seating space, unlike some cafes which are quite small and narrow.

The floor is just normal cement, with wooden tables and stools, but somehow the ambience of the place is unique and rustic.

This is what greets you at the entrance,

We went for brunch, and I ordered one of their brunch sets. The food was good, and the avocado spread was something quite special, as you don't get it in other cafes. Spot the impatient little fingers - Helene's! Haha :)

They also serve a variety of cakes, and their mille crepe cakes are especially good. We tried the black forest crepe cake (sorry no picture) and it was firm, unlike some which tend to melt and become soft if not eaten straight from the fridge.

Here is where they make their coffee and drinks, right at the entrance of the cafe. We quite enjoyed ourselves, and will definitely be back!

And the biggest poser is...

Hands down, it's this one! She insisted that her Daddy buy her this jewellery set and paraded around the house with it.

It also works when there's food :)

Hannah, generally, needs the help of some props:

We were at the opening of EcoWorld's "Under the Windmills" event at Simpang Ampat.

As for this little one, why need to pose when she has her signature grin? We can never get enough of it :)

But when all's said and done, selfies with Mummy are always the best!

Finally, the first few steps!

I can walk now, not very well, but it's still a big achievement for me, yay!

Before I could walk, I was a pro Spider baby as can be seen in the video below:

Since I am a baby who loves food, I was "lured" to walk by my jie jie holding food at the other end of the room! Take a look:

So now I am more confident and walking a few more steps every day. Told you I could do it, Mummy and Daddy!

Helene @ 15 months

I am now 15 1/2 months, and guess what, I'm still not walking! Haha. At my Dr's checkup the other day, my Mummy asked the Dr if it was ok that I'm still not walking as both Hannah and Heidi were walking at 13 months old. The Dr said it was fine as all my other motor skills were normal. Don't worry Mummy, I just want to be carried for a leeetle bit longer!

In other exciting news, even though I can't walk yet, I can stand on my own for a few seconds now! I just discovered that I could do it this week, so I was super excited and happy and clapped for myself! And I was even happier when everyone else clapped for me too!

It's no doubt that I am a "late bloomer" as my Hannah jie jie could stand up on her own at 11 months! Ah well, better late than never!

Besides being a slow walker, I'm also a slow talker. I can basically still say the words I could say at 14 months only haha. Hannah jie jie, on the other hand, could say animal names at 14 months!

But one thing that makes me special (which Hannah jie jie did not have) is my million thousand hundred dollar smile! In this respect, I am more like my Heidi jie jie :) You can see my smiley Heidi jie jie when she was a baby here, here and here :)

Here I am flashing that smile again :)

One thing that we all have in common though, is that we all love kiddy rides!

Check out these old photos of my jie jies enjoying their rides too! Isn't it nice to be a child? Such simple things make us happy! :)

Just a random post :)

Recently I've received an email from my sister, the contents of which I find very meaningful and would like to share it with all our blog readers.

"A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students, if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.' The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. 'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - family, children, health, friends, and favorite passions – Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else --The small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' He continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, You will never have room for the things that are important to you. So... pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. 'Take care of the golf balls first -- The things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.' One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. 'I'm glad you asked'. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.' "

Coffee (or rather, hot chocolate, with my best friend :)

Adeline and Robert's Wedding

The official wedding photos of my sister and Robert's wedding were out some months ago, and she had posted them all on Facebook, but I never really got to sharing them on the blog.

It was a beautiful wedding, and the wedding photographer was well worth every cent they paid for him!

Here are some of my favourites, not in any particular order:
