Heidi is 6!

It's sometimes hard to believe that my little bald baby is now 6 years old, and with a full head of hair haha. So anyway, Heidi turned 6 on the 8th of April, and since it was a Sunday, we had a small celebration in school for her on the Friday before. She wore a pretty dress which was a gift from my parents.

Our cake as usual was ordered from Jenni Cake House and the theme was chosen by Heidi herself. For this year's cake, she carefully collected all the Mr Men and Little Miss figurines from her McDonald's Happy Meals and said that she wanted them on her cake. I must say that they did a good job - it looks like such a cheerful cake, much like our cheerful Heidi! :)

We also ordered cute jellies from Hubby's sister's friend, since Heidi's teacher said not to have any party packs this year.

As usual, we took lots of pictures, until the little boy sitting next to Heidi complained "Why so long" haha. So then we quickly sang the birthday song and cut the cake, so the kids could eat while we continued taking pictures.

Another photo of the birthday girl - the birthday girl or boy gets to wear that special tag around their neck for the day.

On her real birthday, we had a small party for her at home and my mum cooked all her favourite food. Her she is getting an ang pow from Nanna and Kung Kung.

She also requested a rainbow cake from Bread History, so rainbow cake it was :)

Happy birthday sweet Heidi! We all love you very much!

Chicken poxed out

So we spent the better part of March battling with onsets of chicken pox. It all started on the 2nd day of Chinese New Year when we found out that 3 of our relatives were having chicken pox when we went to visit! It was a bit too late then by the time we found out so we decided it was no big deal since the kids had all been vaccinated.

Fast forward 2 weeks later, and one morning I noticed some red spots on Heidi's back as I was showering her. It didn't look like watery blisters which are consistent with chicken pox spots, but we kept her back from school, just in case. After we confirmed those were chicken pox spots, she didn't go to school for the next 2 weeks; it was a good thing that there was a week school holiday during that time. Helene dutifully brought back her homework for her to do every day, and I would hand it over to her teacher the next morning when sending Helene to school.

Heidi's case was very mild - she had hardly any spots (maybe around 10 only) and none appeared on her face. You can see that she doesn't look like she's having chicken pox from the photos below. I dressed them up one Saturday in matching dresses and shoes, just for the fun of it :)

Fast forward 2 weeks later, and I saw 2 watery blisters on Helene's hand one night. Uh-oh I thought to myself, here we go again. True enough, more watery blisters started to appear over the next few days and poor girl even had it on her face. Her case was definitely worse than Heidi's, even thought both of them had been vaccinated for chicken pox. She also had a mild fever for the first couple of days.

We put calamine lotion on her to prevent too much itching, and little girl behaved like a champ. She was still cheerful despite having the itchy blisters all over her body.

She's almost all better now - no longer contagious but she is still not going to school until all her scabs have fallen off. After being house-bound for the last couple of weeks, we took her to Gurney Plaza last weekend.

Oh, and someone also lost her 3rd tooth! She lost her first 2 teeth last year just before her birthday as well :)

Now one of Hubby's nieces is having chicken pox - her spots appeared just a few days after Helene's, and the poor girl got it really bad all over her face neck and body. Really a teenager's nightmare. Let's hope this is the last case!

Update (7/4/2018) - Hannah is now having chicken pox too! So she's really the last one in our family to get it.

Heidi's Kindy Concert

This blog hasn't been updated for a while as I was travelling quite a bit this month; first to Hong Kong & Macau for work, and then to Bangkok for a short getaway with Hubby. I am planning to blog about those too, but then this comes first - Heidi's kindergarten concert. She missed her concert last year as we took the girls to Hong Kong for a holiday, so we were very sure not to miss this one as this would be the first time she was performing on stage. I actually had to work on that day as well, but I have the best colleagues who covered for me in the morning so that I could attend the concert.

This was her outfit as she was doing a "Mulan" dance. Quite nice, I must say :)

Here she is in action:

And after the concert, the kids all got a watch as a gift. The girls got "Frozen" watches and the boys got "Cars".

We had 4 tickets to the concert, so as we didn't bring Helene, Heidi wanted her cousin Pei Zi to go with us. So here they both are after the concert - Heidi was such a happy girl on that day!

Oh and just to "tumpang" this post, since Deepavali was just over, here are our 2 little girls ready to go out Deepavali visiting!

Heidi is 5!

Heidi turned 5 on 8th of April. As it was on a Saturday, we had a small celebration for her in school the day before, which was Friday. When we were deciding what cake to have, this creation from Bread History caught my eye. Heidi loves Disney Tsum Tsum, so it was a no brainer that she chose this cake!

Happy girl wearing her new dress from Nanna to school that day. Even though the rest of kids were wearing uniform, she got special privelege since it was her birthday :)

Helene joined us for the school celebrations too, but Hannah had to miss it as she had school herself.

Kiss for the birthday girl from Daddy:

Nanna and Kung Kung were there too :)

Make a wish and blow the candles!

Helene helped to cut the cake :) So happy as if it is her birthday haha :)

The girls stayed the night with Nanna and Kung Kung as Mummy and Daddy had a function to catch and were home late. The next day, Heidi got an ang pow and a card from Nanna and Kung Kung.

And I came over with balloons for the birthday girl!

We couldn't celebrate with her that evening as Helene was admitted to hospital for H1N1 that very same day and I had to stay with her (that story for another blog post!). So Daddy bought her another cake and the 3 of them had a small celebration that night at home. She chose this cake as well, from Jasmine Cakes.

Happy birthday again to our sweet Heidi! Lots of love from all of us xxoo

Heidi's first trophy

We have a nice little collection of trophies at home, as Hannah has been bringing them back quite often from school this year. Up until now, all the trophies belong to Hannah, so Heidi was beyond thrilled to receive her first ever trophy at her first Mega Sports Camp this year for the Outstanding Child Award, the same award that her sister got for 2 years in a row from previous camps. She couldn't stop smiling the whole of Friday afternoon after the camp and she proudly placed her trophy next to her sister's trophies. Here's to growing the collection even further!  🏆🏆🏆

Heidi is 4!

This year, Heidi told us she wanted an animal cake. So after looking through hundreds of images on the internet and not finding any to our liking, we decided to provide our own cake-toppers (animal toy figures) and let Jenni do the rest.

As expected, she did not disappoint us.

Little girl was so excited to see her cake, We had her birthday celebration in school and her little friends were pretty excited too!

She obediently clasped her hands and made a wish when her teacher told her to, and then blew out her special number 4 candle! And her hands were still clasped together haha.

These were the party packs which Daddy prepared for her friends. Inside each pack was a little toy animal, in keeping with the animal theme :)

In the afternoon, we took the girls (except Helene) to watch Disney's The Jungle Book - yes animals all the way :). Before the show, the girls posed in front of the different exhibits outside the cinema. Coincidentally, they were all of animals too!

Back at my parents' place in the evening, we had a small party at home with just the 7 of us. My dad decorated the house with a banner and some balloons.

I bought a simple butter cake from Jan's which we all love, and re-used the cake deco from the morning's cake, including the candle!

Happy little Heidi!

Helene was pretty excited too!

And a photo of the 5 of us:
