Mother's Day 2017

My sister is back from Canberra to celebrate Mother's Day with our mum this year. (And we're going off on a short trip this Wednesday, but that will be another blog post! Can't wait!).

So anyway, after church, we had brunch at Macallum Connoiseurs as my mum really likes the coffee there.

My mum and her 2 daughters:

Me and my 3 daughters :)

With the daddies now:

The cafe had some cakes with Mother's Day deco:

And this was a special apple cake with ice cream called "Poached & Crumbles" which they made specially for Mother's Day. It was quite delicious.

After brunch and after the little one had her nap, we went to Chew Thean Yeang to buy some fish for our aquarium. Look at how happy this little girl was

I also posted this on my Instagram and Facebook - true story!

I received several Mother's Day greetings this morning and in my haste to reply to one of them, I didn't realise that I had responded "sane to you" instead of "same to you" (blame it on autocorrect!). But on hindsight, I suppose I wasn't all that wrong. It's nothing new that our kids can sometimes drive us crazy and it takes a whole lot of sanity to break up fights, clean up messy little hands and mouths, multi-tasking with homework, having eyes at the back of your head and answering endless "why" "what" and "where" questions and all the while keep a straight head while doing it. But although it can drive us in"sane", it is so rewarding all at the time time. To my brood of 3, I am so blessed to be your mummy. And to all mummies, enjoy your day - you certainly deserve it.

And to my own supermum, happy Mother's Day with lots of love!

Helene's 3rd Birthday

Birthdays are a big deal to this little girl. She simply loves singing the birthday song, blowing the candles and cutting the cake. So to her, everybody's birthday is her birthday, and what more, when it is actually her birthday!

We decided this would be probably the last time we would be throwing her a birthday party for a while, since next year onwards she can celebrate in school with her friends. So when we went to order the cake from Jenni Cake House, they recommended us to have our party at Victorian Garden tea room and cafe, which is situated just behind my office. We had gone there a few times for lunch and the food was pretty good. They also offered quite a good package for our small group so we decided to book the place.

Rewind a bit to the day before her actual birthday, my mum decided to have a small party for her at home, just to capitalise on her love of birthday songs and cakes!

She decorated the house with balloons and cooked all her favourite food :)

Nobody was more excited than Helene when she saw her cake!

Our 3 princesses. She put an arm around each of them when we asked her to take a photo with her sisters :)

One with Nanna and Kung Kung - she already started clapping even before we started singing haha.

And one of the 5 of us :)

My mum even bought special candles so that she would have plenty of candles to blow (instead of just 3!). After that, we recycled the candles for her party the next day :)

Blow the candles, make a wish and cut the cake!

One of the whole family:

The next day was her actual birthday. She was so excited and kept asking the whole day "When is my birthday?" So we had to actually take her for a drive so that she would doze off and nap in the car. When it finally came time to get ready for the party, we dressed her in a pretty new dress (gift from the UK). Hubby left first to pick up so extra food which his mum cooked (the restaurant allowed us to bring our own food).

So here's what happened as I stepped out of the door about to leave for the restaurant. The restaurant owner called me and was super apologetic as apparently some other group had insisted that she had promised them the upstairs space (which was meant for us) so she asked if we could have downstairs instead. Of course, we were not too happy as we would have more privacy upstairs but she assured us that she would decorate the place nicely and would give us a 10% discount off the total bill. With only an hour left to the party, we didn't really have much of a choice.

But I must say that they really made it up to us in terms of service and quality of food. We had complimentary ice cream for the kids, complimentary coffee and tea, and the owner even offered to plate nicely the food which we brought - fried noodles and spring rolls made by my MIL. And the star of the day was the roast pork - we were too busy eating that we forgot to take any pictures of the food! Their chocolate brownies were really delicious as well. My SIL asked to take the whole plate home! :)

Birthday girl:

Since we ordered the cake from Jenni and they are affiliated to this restaurant, they delivered the cake here for us. It turned out pretty nicely and we recycled the candles from the day before as well as the Disney Tsum Tsum figurines from Heidi's cake. As expected, this little girl was grinning from ear to ear when she saw the cake :) She likes to play "masak-masak", hence the theme of the cake.

One of her with aunty and uncle who look after her when Mummy and Daddy are at work. They love her to bits and spoil her rotten haha.

This time, there were many more people to sing the birthday song for her. She got shy after a while but she didn't stop smiling haha.

And in fact when the people upstairs had left (it was quite early), the owner asked us to go upstairs to take photographs, which we did!

Thank you everyone for coming!

It was a happy day with excellent service, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.
