Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia

We are indeed blessed to be born into this country. Despite its recent setbacks, we are still proud to be Malaysian. In what other country do we find such a melting pot of cultures and traditions with people who come from all walks of life and speak in a Babel of languages? We are modern yet traditional, simple yet complex, laid-back yet vibrant.

As parents, we want to teach our children what it means to be a Malaysian. We hope to tell Hannah that she should be proud to be a Malaysian, an Anak Bangsa Malaysia.

Indeed, we all should, for we are all Anak Bangsa Malaysia. Happy Merdeka everyone!

At home with Mummy

On Saturdays I'm usually home with Mummy in the mornings because Daddy goes to work for half a day. Mummy enjoys this time with me because she gets to have me all to herself, and she especially enjoys dressing me up! After that, she will take lots of photos of me. She is almost as bad as Daddy when it comes to taking lots and lots of photos!

So this morning I was all dressed up and ready to pose for Mummy. This is a nice dress which Daddy's students Krystle and Ragu gave to me.

Say "cheese"!

I can sit up on my own propped against the cushion quite well, but after a while I slowly lean to the side. Mummy quickly catches me and takes me up when this happens. See, I am like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Slowly, slowly... help Mummy!

Later on, due to a slight "accident" while changing my lampin, I had to change into another dress.
See, I am all happy after being clean and dry :)

I guess this is as close to a smile as Mummy could get today.

And this too:

I look seriously into the camera most of the time.

Mummy and Daddy have recently discovered that I like to watch TV. So instead of carrying me on the lap, Daddy tried to let me sit up in my car seat on the sofa and watch TV. A little unorthodox, I know, but hey, it's worth a try! Oh, by the way, this was in the evening when Daddy had got home from work.

I am watching the TV intently

Oops, what's this? You want me to pose for the camera?

Daddy also took a photo with me and his ingenious idea :)

And then Mummy joined in the picture.

Mummy, your hair is tickling my face!

This really proves that Mummy and Daddy really love taking photos of me (and themselves!). Oh well, I give up. They can take photos. I just want to watch my cartoons!

Bottle's up!

Hannah has had the tendency to want to hold her own bottle ever since she was very small. Here she is at 6 days old attempting to hold her bottle.

However, yesterday, she actually managed to grip the bottle firmly with both hands and continue to suck and drink her water. Her Daddy was feeding her and he was very surprised indeed that she could hold the bottle without any support.

Daddy, look at me! I can feed myself!

Are you looking? Are you looking??

Hi Mummy, you can see it too! Cheers! Bottle's up!

Needless to say, we were very proud of her and made a big fuss of her after that. So Daddy and Mummy were very happy and Hannah was happy too! (This is the best face we could get from her; her smile is very very rare and expensive!)

Mozzie bites

In these 12 weeks that Hannah has been with us, we have tried as much as possible to keep mosquitoes away from her, and so far we have been succesful, up until last night, that is!

When she slept in her bassinet, it came with a built on mosquito net, so we had no problem there. When she sleeps at her Ah Mah's house, she is covered with a mosquito net as well. But now at home that she has outgrown her bassinet, she sleeps on the bed with me, and we do not have a mosquito net for her.

So after a couple of weeks sleeping at home without a mosquito net, this was the result:

We got quite a shock to see how red the spots were on her face this morning. There is one on her cheek and another one near her ear. Look at it close-up:

Upon closer inspection, she also had a bite on her hand and another one near her elbow:

Perhaps it's time we look for alternative remedies to keep the pesky mosquitoes at bay. Baby Caris' Mummy has a good suggestion on a herbal remedy which may be effective. You can read about it here.

For now, we just need to make sure that she doesn't scratch and hopefully she will not be too prone to mozzie bites.

Our poor baby!

Just another Sunday

Remember the dress Mummy mentioned in her much earlier post about sorting out my nice clothes? Well, finally I had the chance to wear it today. Mummy and Daddy actually wanted to save it for me to wear for a special occasion, but looking at the size of it, they thought that it's better to let me wear it before I outgrow it!

So this afternoon, Mummy dressed me up before going to Ah Mah's house for lunch. I still have the habit of trying to put my whole fist into my mouth, but not very succesfully!

Here you can see the whole dress. Don't I look pretty? Mummy has a little sing-song that she sings to me when I get cranky. She goes "Hannah is a pretty girl, Hannah is a good girl, Hannah is a clever girl.." Well, I hope so too, Mummy!

Mummy took the opportunity of taking a photo with me too! I feel like such a celebrity..haha..

Later that night when we got home, Daddy took lots of close up pictures of my face. Here you can see almost all my different expressions! It was just another pleasant Sunday :)

Steamboat!

Since Hannah was born, we haven't been able to get out much, because firstly, taking her anywhere would involve lugging half the house with us and secondly, either one of us would not be able to really enjoy our meal as we have to constantly tend to her. Thirdly, we do not really want to bring her out yet for fear of the A(H1N1) flu virus. So anyway, since our friends Jenny and Ai Nee had not seen her some time, and we wanted to spend some time with them, we compromised by having steamboat at home. We decided to do the steamboat at our other apartment as it is slightly bigger. Also, it is currently not occupied so we could use the whole space. Ai Nee, Baby Darrel and Vivian reached first, then Jenny with all the food! It was around 4 pm by that time, so we started preparing the meal.

The three cooks (or just pretending to be for the photo)

Jenny had very kindly gone to the market in the morning to buy all the fresh ingredients, so we had fish, chicken, pork, all kinds of bola-bola, vegetables etc.

All the good stuff cooking in the pot

Hannah surprisingly managed to sleep for quite a while so Hubby and I could enjoy our meal. She must have been tired out as she did not really sleep much the whole day.

When she finally woke up, it was picture time!

Baby Darrel and Vivian joined the picture

The Photographer finally being photographed :)
Hannah: Not taking photos agaaaiinnn....

My pacifier and I

I did not like to suck on pacifiers when I was younger but I quite like it nowadays. However, Daddy and Mummy only use it to help me to sleep.

Note to all Mummies and Daddies: The pacifier shouldn't be given to babies while they are hungry because it will cause them to suck in air and give them lots of wind in their tummies. This will cause them pain and they will become colicky.

I have many pacifiers but I like this one in particular given to me by Aunty Sue (Baby Sarah had lots of extra unused ones).

Nanna has said that she misses me and wants to see more recent pictures of me on the blog. So here are some photos of me. Theme: Pacifier!
