Hike to Monkey Beach, Penang

Hubby's colleagues organised a hike to Monkey Beach over the long weekend and he asked me and Hannah to go along. The hike would be too strenous for Heidi and Helene, so we didn't bring them along. After living in Penang for so many years, this is the first time for all of us going up this hiking trail. The entrance to the trail is known as Penang National Park, which is a little way past Teluk Bahang,

Here are all of us at the entrance of the trail. This would be the last photo that we look clean and fresh for the day haha.

Just a short way in, there was a mini canopy bridge. And where the bridge ended, the trail got tougher.

A nice break in the trail was this stretch of beach.

Hannah was busy picking up shells, but these are actually "siput" which can be cooked and eaten.

After that, we continued our hike. As can be seen, it was pretty tough in places but it was a good thing that it was mostly on flat ground and not uphill. It would have been even more tiring then.

After about almost 2 hours hike, we arrived at our destination - Monkey Beach!

We had pre-ordered lunch so here is some of the food that we were served. The taste was not that great, but we were hungry after the long hike, so it was all gone very soon!

After lunch, we had water sports - jet ski, banana boat etc. No pictures because no-one took their phones into the water! Hannah really had a ball of a time, and also she got pretty sunburnt after that!

We took the boat back (but you can choose to hike back if you want) and everyone pretty much wanted a good hot shower after that!

  1. monkey beach in penang is one of the most famous beach there is in Penang, Malaysia. If you're heading there, don't forget to head to muka head lighthouse for a short hike too! Then, finish off the trip with a relaxing sunset view at starbucks in batu ferringhi before heading out for dinner in georgetown!
