Steamboat at home

Hi, I am Heidi and this will be my first post here. Previously all other posts were by Mummy, Daddy and Jie Jie. I am 7 months plus now (will be 8 months on 8 December) but people still say that I am small for my age. When we go out and Mummy and Daddy ask for a baby chair for me, the people will always ask in surprise if I can sit already. Well, just to let you know, I can sit very steadily and am now trying to stand up and crawl as well. Anyway, the doctor says that my weight is "superb" so I suppose there is nothing to worry about. Mummy and Daddy are only a bit concerned because my Jie-Jie was much bigger than me when she was my age.

So anyway, last Friday Mummy and Daddy hosted a steamboat dinner at home for some of their friends. Jie Jie stayed at Ah Mah's house because she had a flu and cough (which later I got too!) so that she didn't pass the flu bug to Jie Jie Isabelle who was also coming to our house. Daddy is on a break from work as he is changing jobs starting in December so he did all this by himself. Isn't my Daddy good at decorating such a nice table? :)

He even cooked the soup himself, with some guidance from Ah Mah over the phone on what ingredients to put in. I was quite happy to be carried by all the Uncles and Aunties. This is me with Aunty Jacintha.

Look at all the yummy goodies cooking inside the pot. Too bad I couldn't have any. I can eat little bits of food nowadays though like porridge, bread and biscuits. I can even eat rice as I have 4 little teeth already, but Ah Mah doesn't want to give me too much in case I cannot digest it.

When everyone was eating, I sat in my room and played with my toys. I wasn't too happy about it though as I wanted to join in the fun outside!

So later on Mummy put me in my walker. At least I got to see what was happening ;)

Hannah and Heidi go to KL

Due to the public holidays last week, I took some days off so that I would have a nice long break. So for half of that long break, we decided to pack up the kids and head to KL for some shopping and R&R. I booked us into Seri Pacific Hotel which was formerly Pan Pacific Hotel next to Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) as there was quite a good deal on Booking.com - RM390++ for 3 nights.

We set off on Saturday morning around 10 am. The day before, Hubby took our Exora for servicing and also a general check before going on a long journey. The mechanic did not notice anything amiss with the car. As we were driving out the main gate next to the guardhouse, I told Hubby to stop the car and throw away Hannah's milk box which she had finished drinking at the main garbage disposal so as not to accumulate rubbish in the car. When he went down, he just turned to have a look at the tyres and discovered that the front tyres were goners with a big slash in each of them (slash due to wear and tear and not done by purpose). So we drove to the car workshop just down the road and they replaced the two front tyres for us. Thank God that He gave us the foresight to stop the car, otherwise the tyres would have gone unnoticed and they may have exploded in the middle of the highway. Thank God for his protection over us too.

Here we are ready to start off our journey. This was Heidi's first long distance trip by car and also her first time in KL. See Hannah's Dutch Lady milk - this was what I asked Hubby to throw away.

We directly checked in the hotel when we reached KL around 3 pm. The room was big and spacious, very worth the price we paid.

We also had a very nice view of the Petronas Twin Towers at night. I specifically requested for a room with this view.

The first two days we went to Mid Valley/The Gardens and One Utama. Unlike previous times, we didn't "shop till we drop" since we had the 2 kids with us, so more of the time was spent with looking at their stuff and their toys, and doing things like this:

They also enjoyed swimming (even though the hotel pool is nothing to shout about) and for Heidi it was her first time in the swimming pool. She only had a 5 minute dip in the pool though as we were afraid the water would be too cold for her. She had to make do with the bath tub in the room after that :) She really enjoyed both the pool and bath tub though, splashing away until her face was all wet. I did not take any pictures of them in the pool as all of us were in the pool together, but here are some of Heidi in her swimming suit.

Hannah brought some of her art supplies so she managed to keep herself entertained in the room. I told Hubby that I didn't know if driving ourselves was a good thing or a bad thing. When we went to Langkawi, we travelled really light so that we would not have to pay for extra baggage. But this trip, driving ourselves gave us an excuse to pack a whole of things which we didn't really use. Oh well, as long as the kids are happy!

We bought some little gifts for their cousins back home. Hannah was quite interested to see how they made the candy - one outlet will be opening at Gurney Paragon in the near future.

After the 3rd night, we decided to extend our stay one more night so the next day, we wanted to bring Hannah to the Petronas Science Centre in KLCC but we couldn't get in. The queue was massive despite it being a weekday - must have been the school holidays and people would have taken extended leave due to the public holidays. So to curb her disappointment of not being able to go in, on the 4th day, we went to Zoo Negara. I haven't been there since I was a little girl and now I am taking my two little girls there.

We arrived just in time to catch the animal show, but it wasn't much to talk about, with the exception of the sea lions.

Heidi got understandably bored after a while, so it was up to Daddy to entertain her :)

Later on, we decided to take the tram ride around the zoo as it would be too hot for us to walk. We managed to see the giraffes and elephants up close.

All in all, it was a good holiday. The girls were very good and behaved themselves, especially Heidi. Looking forward to the next road trip!

Updates on Heidi

Heidi is almost 7 and a half months old now. She is still our happy, cheerful, laid back and easy going baby. She has started solid foods, but she is not at all fond of baby cereal or porridge, preferring things like her baby biscuits, bread and other foods which are not mushy. Hubby is now the expert in cooking her porridge, and he tries to make it not mushy, but still digestable for her.

She has now two little bottom teeth coming out. It took me many attempts to get a picture of her teeth and finally I managed to get one, even though it is a bit blur since she is always moving around!

She can also understand simple actions, such as "clap", "kick", "kiss", "touch Daddy's head" and her favourite  thing to do now is pull off people's glasses. You just need to say "Take Daddy's/Mummy's/Amah's specs" and off they go! :)

She can sit up steadily now, so she can play with her toys while sitting upright, something she enjoys very much, compared to previously when she could only look up at the ceiling when lying on her back. She can also now enjoy kiddy rides with her Jie-Jie too.

Heidi can also make funny faces, much like Hannah used to! Compare the picture below - on the left is Hannah and on the right is Heidi. I never thought that the both of them looked alike, but now I can see the resemblance ;)

Walking in the rain

Well, so maybe it was not exactly raining but since the kids had been cooped the whole day in the house due to the rain, we thought it was a good idea to get some fresh air when the rain finally stopped. This post is a bit outdated though, as these pictures were taken the week before we went to Langkawi.

Heidi has never been to Youth Park and we had not brought Hannah since Heidi was born, unlike before when we used to go there every so often. So we decided to brave the dark clouds and take them for a walk. Hannah was a bit disappointed to see the swings and slides all wet from the rain but we assured her that we would come back when the weather was nicer.

It was not raining but the trees were still wet from the rain and would occasionally drop some water on our heads as we walked under them. So for that reason I carried an umbrella :)

Hannah found some things she could still play with without having to wet her clothes, so we let her run around a bit to work off some of her energy.

In the car, Heidi straight away had her dinner - yummy porridge with carrots and potatoes cooked by Daddy! She sure did enjoy it :)

It was time to go home, but we will definitely be back!

A day out with Daddy

Hubby is on a long break for one month before starting his new job in December, so he is mostly free during the weekdays when I am at work and the girls at his parents' place. This morning, he took Hannah out to have some quality time with her.

He whatsapped me the pictures of what they did. First stop - McDonald's! Hannah had pancakes but looked like she was more interested in the Happy Meal toy.

Pure happiness on the slides in the playland. Check out her newly cut fringe and hair. Usually when it gets too long her Amah cannot "tahan" so off to the hairdresser she goes.

After that, it was her favourite activity - sand art at Gurney Plaza. It's nice to go on weekdays when there are not so many people at the mall.

I have no idea what they did after that - have to ask Hubby tonight! :)
