Fever

Little Hannah woke up yesterday afternoon from her nap with a fever. Mother-in-law quickly called us so I took off from work and went back to check on her. She was still her active self but her forehead, neck, the palms of her hands and feet were very warm. With H1N1 making a "comeback" and the onset of dengue fever, not to mention hand foot and mouth disease, we decided to take her to the pediatrician just to make sure everything was ok.

I called up Adventist Hospital and asked to make an appointment with her usual pediatrician, Dr Mary, but was informed that she was on leave until this Sunday. So no choice, we had to see one of the other pediatricians on duty that day, Dr Pong.

At the pedriatic clinic, Hannah's temperature was taken and she had a fever of 38.6 degrees, quite high already. However, she still wanted to play with all the kiddy toys in the clinic while waiting to go in to see the doctor.

I wasn't very sure about seeing a new pediatrician because Hannah had never been consulted by anyone but Dr Mary and I didn't know how she would take to Dr Pong, but the moment we entered his room, he put a huge purple singing caterpillar on the table and she was sold! :)

Not only that, while he was busy examining her and talking to me, he asked his nurse to blow bubbles for her - in his room! That definitely made her day, fever or no fever. And when the bubbles had all popped, she said "n'more" (no more) and made the gesture with her hands, Dr Pong said "Aiyo, so cute, Kakak please blow more bubbles for Hannah!"

Dr Pong explained that since she had no other symptoms, it was just a viral fever and she should be alright within 3 or 4 days. The fever may go up and down, however, for the first couple of days. We just need to check that she has no cough, cold, vomiting or red spots.

When the check-up was over, she happily waved bye bye to Dr Pong and his nurse and we went home. She was much better in the evening, but in the middle of the night, her fever went up to 38.8 degrees. We gave her another dose of 3 ml Paracetamol and she was better this morning with a mild fever of 37.3 degrees.

One good thing is that she quite likes the Paracetamol syrup and takes the whole 3 ml without any complaint or spitting out. At least then we know that the medicine goes into her system and helps make her better instead of all over her shirt or hankerchief! :)

We just hope and pray that our little princess gets better and we prayed for her last night that Jesus will make her fever all gone soon and she will be back to her active self.
