Children's Colouring Contest @ PSC

Over the weekend, Hannah entered a children's colouring contest at Penang Sports Club. The contest was open to member's children for 2 separate categories, 4 to 8 years old and 9 to 12 years old. We had lunch, and then it was time for the contest.

Hannah has always had an interest in art, so she was quite eager to join the competition. We did tell her however, that it did not matter if she did not win a prize, it was her effort that counted and that she tried her best.

The two little ones did not join, but the organisers were so kind as to let them have some colouring fun too!

I forgot to take a picture of Hannah's finished piece, but she did a good job and coloured everything nicely within the lines. So for her effort, she got a consolation prize (which every participant got haha).

Next year hopefully she can win one of those trophies! Good job Hannah!

Precious time with my 2 big girls

This is another belated post, since I'm blogging about what I did during my confinement, which was almost 2 months ago!

In my 2nd month of confinement, about 2 weeks before I started work, I brought Helene to her nanny's place just for a few hours each day for her and nanny to get adapted to each other. So with a little bit of free time each day, I decided to spend some time alone each with Hannah and Heidi, since I don't know when will be the next time we will have this one-on-one time again.

Hannah is now 5, so we did big girl things, like go jalan-jalan at shopping malls:

We went to catch a movie - "How to Train your Dragon 2" and we both enjoyed it very much :)

We did art and craft at home:

And we had some yummy froyo (less fattening than ice-cream :p)

As for Heidi, she is only 2 and fun-loving, so we did what she loves the most.

And I took her to try sand art for the very first time. She always observed Hannah doing it before so I decided she was old enough to give it a try.

There were not many people on a weekday, so the uncle could devote all his time in helping her do a nice piece, and this was the result! She definitely chose a picture to match her expression! :)

The best thing about all this was when she suddenly spontaneously told me, "Mummy, I'm so happy!"

A day out with Daddy

Hubby is on a long break for one month before starting his new job in December, so he is mostly free during the weekdays when I am at work and the girls at his parents' place. This morning, he took Hannah out to have some quality time with her.

He whatsapped me the pictures of what they did. First stop - McDonald's! Hannah had pancakes but looked like she was more interested in the Happy Meal toy.

Pure happiness on the slides in the playland. Check out her newly cut fringe and hair. Usually when it gets too long her Amah cannot "tahan" so off to the hairdresser she goes.

After that, it was her favourite activity - sand art at Gurney Plaza. It's nice to go on weekdays when there are not so many people at the mall.

I have no idea what they did after that - have to ask Hubby tonight! :)

When Hannah was at Gurney Plaza doing her sand and window art the other day, we also bought something for her to take home and do. She chose it herself - a photo frame which she needs to colour using the paint provided in the kit. Usually she enjoys going to her favourite places in the mall - rides, Toys R Us etc. However, that day, she asked us immediately once we left the sand art place, "Can we go home now?" This probably had to do with the fact that we told her that she could only paint her photo frame once we got home!

Anyway, that evening when we got home, she got her little table and chair ready and Hubby set up the paint for her. We also put one of Heidi's bigger bibs on her so that she wouldn't mess up her clothes :)

I must say she painted with full concentration - we could see it in her face :)

Hannah seems to enjoy artwork a lot. In this sense she takes after her Daddy as the artistic streak comes from him and not from me!

The photo frame is not finished yet, we left it to dry and told her she could continue it another day. Will post up the finished result here, if it gets finished and if it is not too messy looking! :)

Hannah's first drawing

In my previous post, I posted that Hannah loves sand art, but she never really showed any inclination towards drawing or colouring. Usually she will just scribble abstract stuff when given a pen or pencil and paper.

Yesterday however, she surprised me by drawing this on one of the apps on her Daddy's phone (amazing what all these apps can teach the kids):

I don't know how to rotate it but if you look sideways, it's a face! Complete with two eyes, a nose, mouth and even eyebrows. It also has hair (blue nonetheless) and a pair of green ears.

Maybe we do have a budding artist on our hands after all. Probably she gets it from her Daddy who is quite good at art. I'm glad because I can't draw to save my life :)

There is this shop in Gurney Plaza which Hannah loves to go to, they have sand art and other types of artwork for kids. It can get quite crowded during the weekends, which is why I took her a couple of times on weekdays when I was still on maternity leave.

She started off when she was about 2 and a half by learning how to do the sand art.

After several times doing the sand painting, she wanted to try this other type of painting. I discouraged her at first because I thought it would be quite messy and that she could try when she was bigger, but her Daddy was convinced that she could do it.

Surprisingly enough, her hands were very steady and she could put the colours in within the lines - not too bad for a 3 year old.

There is not much space anymore for us to put all the artwork, we may need to get her a folder or file or some sort soon! However, we were informed by the uncle who owns the shop that he needs to move to the 4th floor of Gurney Plaza (in front of Aussino) beginning 1st July as Gurney Plaza management needs his space for food and beverage kiosks (he is now at the basement next to the escalator). It's not as ideal as his location now as many parents drop their kids there while going to pick up groceries at Cold Storage. Oh well, maybe Hannah will not ask to go there as often as before since we do not have to pass by everytime we are at Gurney Plaza :)



Art & craft time

I am currently in confinement, and Hubby's mum comes up every morning to cook and help out with Heidi, but she will leave around 6 pm every day once she has cooked dinner. So after that until Hubby comes home (sometimes after 10 pm if he has class), it's basically just me and the 2 kids. Hannah is at home with us the whole day since Hubby's mum is the one who looks after her when we are at work.

So anyway, it can get pretty boring for her being cooped up at home the entire day, so Sue has been so kind to watch her for a few hours on certain days so that I can get some rest! :) Hannah had a lot of fun the last time she was there doing art and craft together with Sue's daughter Sarah. They get along pretty well as they are about the same age.

The last project for the day was to make a ladybird from a paper plate. The first step was to colour the paper plate red.
