We took the Dragonair flight from Penang, which flew direct to Hong Kong, so there was no need for any transit. The flight was at 8am, but because I had checked in online, we could be there at 6.30 am to drop our baggage. It was a full flight, looking at the queues at the check-in counters so early in the morning. My parents dropped us at the airport and we took a family photo while waiting.
We boarded the plane on time and settled into our seats. This was the first time that Helene would have her own seat. Previously when we flew to KL, she was still a few days shy of her 2nd birthday so she could sit on my lap. She was not too happy that she had to be buckled in and sitting down but she did comply for a few minutes.
The plane seating arrangement was 2 at each side and 4 in the middle, so since there were 5 of us, Helen and I sat at the side and Hubby, Hannah and Heidi in the middle, but all on the same row.
See, here she is trying to climb out from her seat.
I had ordered a child's meal for each of the girls, and when it came, it did look pretty good! In fact, it looked yummier that the adult meal.

Enjoying their meals and movies:
After almost a 4-hour flight, we arrived at Hong Kong International Airport! The kids were pretty excited.
We took a bus to our hotel, Sunny Day Hotel in Mongkok. Hotels are not cheap in Hong Kong, so we chose this hotel which was recommended by more than one friend for its size, price, cleanliness and location. We booked a family room, which cost around RM400 per night. It had a double bed and a single bed.
The bathroom was clean and spacious:
And this was the shower!
After freshening up, we headed out for our first meal. So when in Hong Kong, must eat Dim Sum! Our good friend Tze Ming had kindly prepared the itinerary for our trip, so he did some research and this place was walking distance from Prince Edward MTR station which was just one station away from Mongkok MTR station - One Dim Sum.
We had to wait a bit as the restaurant was kind enough to get a large table for all of us to sit together. Note: This is generally not the case in Hong Kong! Usually we have to split up, eat quickly and leave, or risk being scolded!
So while waiting we took some pictures outside. Here are the four best friends, some since primary school!
Dim sum in Hong Kong doesn't disappoint. The siew mai and har kau were plump and juicy and the prawns in the har kau were so big!
The kids were basically grouped into 3 groups. Here are the BFFs, Tharissa, Hannah and Isabelle,
Then these were the 2 little ones - Samyra and Helene. They are only around 7 months different in age (however Samyra was born a year earlier).
There should have been another group consisting of Thateeya, Sean and Heidi but at these ages of 4 and 5, they don't really know how to interact with each other so much as the elder ones. However they did get along just fine :)
After our meal, we took a walk to the goldfish market at Tung Choi Street. The market got its name from literally thousands of goldfish! Every shop we walked past were selling these little bags of goldfish.
The busy streets of Hong Kong:
And then we also took a walk to Ladies Market which was further down the same street. It's a good place to buy souvenirs, so we got our souvenirs from there. It's a crowded place for sure, so our little group made the place just a little bit more crowded! :)
Then it was time to go back to the hotel and rest - because we were going to Disneyland the following day! Day 2 blog coming up.
