An evening with Phua Chu Kang

Last Saturday I went out at night by myself for the first time since Hannah was born. It was our Penang Bar 23rd Annual Dinner and Dance at Traders Hotel. My firm had bought 2 tables so it was going to be a fun night with my colleagues. Hubby did not go because Hannah's Ah Mah had to go to KL for a wedding dinner so someone had to stay home to look after her. Thanks B! :)

I guess I did feel a leeetle bit guilty about going out and leaving Hubby at home with her; and also when I looked at her face, it was as if she knows that Mummy is going out kai kai without her. See her expression?

Anyway, I told myself that I would be back home before midnight. This is what being a Mummy is like I suppose, no more late night partying! :)

I was quite looking forward to the evening because of.... Phua Chu Kang - best in Singapore, JB and some say Penang!

Don't "pray pray"

I used to watch PCK with my family and especially those days when we lived in Johor, we could watch Singapore TV and Gurmit Singh a.k.a. Phua Chu Kang was quite a household name. As expected, the funnyman kept us in stitches for a good solid hour.

The man could make jokes, play games, dance and sing; and boy, could he sing! His rendition of Ronan Keating's "When You Say Nothing At All" sounded just like the original.

But what I liked best was at the end of the show, in his normal voice, he thanked everyone for their years of support to help him build his career so that he could put food on the table for his family. I suppose I especially connected with that because I had seen his career grow from the early 1990s when we used to watch him on Singapore TV.

All in all, it was an entertaining hour and we were sorry when it was over. In any case, it was photo time! I took lots of pictures with my friends and colleagues but there are too many to post here. More can be seen on my Facebook profile.

My first cereal

Mummy and Daddy have been noticing lately that my milk does not seem to be sufficient for me because sometimes I will get hungry and need to drink milk about every 2 hours, which is quite a lot. So since I am going to be 5 months old tomorrow, this morning I had a special meal of baby rice cereal. This is what Mummy and Daddy bought for me:

I did not know how to eat the cereal at first, and I kept spitting it out until it was all over my face. Mummy had the wise before-thought to wear a bib for me so that it wouldn't get on my clothes. I also made funny faces at first because I did not recognise the strange taste. But after a while, I got used to it and eagerly opened my mouth whenever the spoon came near.

Yum yum, so delicious!

I was enjoying it so much that I didn't want to let go of the bowl. But after having the cereal, Mummy still fed me milk because most of the cereal ended up on my face or on my bib, so she was doubtful of actually how much of it went into my tummy!

Later in the afternoon, we got ready to go out. I love to go kai kai, unfortunately Mummy and Daddy don't really bring me anywhere except to go to Ah Mah's house and sometimes for a car ride. They say because there is this nasty illness out there called H1N1 which is particularly dangerous if transmitted to babies like me. Never mind Mummy and Daddy, take me when I am bigger, ok? And also when this nasty disease has subsided. So anyway, they dressed me in a pretty dress (thank you Aunty Chia Yin and Jie Jie Isabelle) to go to Ah Mah's house. See how excited I was?

At Ah Mah's house, I went for a walk in my stroller. I enjoy that very much except when the stroller stops, then I don't really like it. I prefer the stroller to move.

I took a picture with Jie Jie Candice and Jie Jie Pei Yi. 3 cousins - do we look alike?

I also took a picture with Mummy and Daddy - now do we look alike? Hee hee... :) Unfortunately I was getting sleepy, hence the grumpy face. So no more pictures for today..until next weekend!

Freddy and the budding musician

I can sit up quite well on my own now, so on Saturday I had a good time playing with Freddy the Firefly while posing for pictures! :) As usual, Mummy had me all to herself, so out came the camera :p

This is me playing the piano. I hope to able to play the piano for real like my Mummy when I am older. By the way, this piano belonged to Mummy and Nanna brought it all the way from Australia the last time she came. So it's quite an antique! The whole piano is made from real wood, not like the plastic types that you can find nowadays.

Do I look like a pro?

All that activity made me tired..so it's time for my nap! Zzzzzzz...

5 months of favourite photos

Baby Hannah will be 5 months old on Monday. Indeed time goes by so fast. From a tiny little person in our arms, she is now a happy, bubbly, chatty little bundle which turns, wriggles and moves around non-stop. Like her Ah Mah says, she "beh si tiam"! Looks like Mummy and Daddy will have their hands full once she learns to crawl and walk!

Looking back at the hundreds of photos we have posted on our blog, these are a a few of our favourites, so here's a recap from the time that she was born until now.

This is still one of our favourites..when Daddy could almost hold her in the palm of his hand and she opened her eyes and looked at the world for the first time.

This was taken by Adventist Hospital to be put on their website. We had this enlarged and it is sitting on the TV cabinet at home. We like it very much because of the bright colours and how she managed to open both her eyes (although not very widely) to take the picture.

We dressed her up in a new outfit for her full moon celebration and she had this cheeky look on her face, at barely one month old! :)

Our little princess of "Rock n Roll" :)

I like this one because she was actually looking at the camera, and Mummy and Baby both giving pretty smiles :)

*Wink*

This was a funny one..our little "kung fu" warrior princess! :) (She was asking to be carried, I believe)

Her eyes are full of expression, and we especially love those eyebrows!

Another funny one..she is deep in thought while fast asleep!

Holding her bottle steadily for the first time. Nowadays she treats it as a game; whenever she is full she will start playing with the bottle, putting it in and out of her mouth.

Posing for Mummy in her pretty batik dress:

Another cute outfit: Little English girl :) I think she can't wear this dress anymore, it was a bit tight then as it was. Just goes to show how much she has grown.

Her first "real" big smile :)

I like the way she is holding her Ducky in this photo..sort of giving Ducky lots of TLC! :)

This was a favourite for a lot of people - "Baby Hannah and her Kiwi". Thanks again Jess for the lovely present all the way from New Zealand!

Pooh is still one of her favourite toys. Until today her face will light up and she will give a big smile whenever she sees Pooh.

Full of excitement - she was laughing out loud in this picture :)

Again, the expression in her eyes in this picture is exquisite. If there were a suitable baby photo contest, I would probably submit this one as an entry.

And here she is, aspiring to be the next supermodel! :)

We love you Hannah and we look forward to many more beautiful photos of you as you grow up!

Phew!

I just walked up 22 flights of stairs because the lifts in my office building broke down. Apparently there was a burst pipe on the 7th floor which disabled all the lifts and caused a mini downpour in the stairwell.

*Very out of breath*

How many kgs of baby fat do you think I have lost? ;)

Updates on Baby Hannah

This post is slightly overdue because of slight changes to our lifestyle (Daddy's started teaching his night class and Mummy's new job) and coping with a more demanding Hannah! Haha..

Baby Hannah is now growing bigger, stronger and louder! At her last doctor's appointment, the doctor told us that she is actually one kg overweight for her age, but apart from that, she is a normal healthy baby. She is also able to sit up with some support and since she has learnt that sitting up provides her a better view of life, she doesn't like to lie down much anymore, not even in her stroller. She prefers to sit up and watch the world go by. However, we try not to let her sit up for long periods of time because her backbone is not yet strong enough. All in good time, Hannah!

She also enjoys the little treats we give her now and then, but not very often! The other day her Daddy let her try a little Baskin Robbins. She absolutely loved it but 2 licks was all she got. She has to wait till she is a bigger to have more :) She also also tried her Ah Mah's yummy soup (2 teaspoons) and "see koh th'ng" which again she really liked. Looks like Baby Hannah's got a sweet tooth! Later Gong Gong will have to check her teeth. Haha..

Nowadays she also knows what she wants and demands loudly for it, whether for milk, if she wants to sleep, or she wants to be carried. We can distinguish her different cries now and recently she can even say "nen nen" (it sounds a lot like it!) when she wants milk. She is able to occasionally sleep through the night but sometimes she still wakes up for one feed in the middle of the night and then go back to sleep. We find that manageable and generally, she is a good little baby.

Strangely enough, this weekend we did not take that many photos, so here are some that her Daddy took on Saturday. Her expressions nowadays change in split seconds and she can almost laugh and cry in the same breath, so sometimes it can be quite amusing. We managed to capture some of her different looks, all within minutes.

This is her inquisitive look:

This is her bored look:

This is a candid shot. Wonder what she is thinking of?

Oh yes, and we finally managed to take a photo of Hannah with all her cousins on her Daddy's side of the family. Her eyes were closed, however. But at least this time nobody was missing!

Mummy's new dress

Today Mummy received the first thing that she ever bought online. It's a new dress! Mummy usually never shops online because she is afraid that the product will not be as good as it looks and also she is afraid that the people who sell the products online cannot be trusted.

However, this online boutique called "Walking Wardrobe" is owned by Mummy's old friend and his girlfriend so she felt safe to buy the dress. Not to mention that all the clothes in their boutique are simply gorgeous and very reasonably priced too. And when it arrived, she was not disappointed. So anyway, here is a picture of the dress. It's a green strapless satin party dress. Isn't it pretty?

To see more dresses and other clothes, you can click on the link in the sidebar.

The ruffles on the bodice of the dress are really nice.

Mummy, can I please try on your dress?

Pretty please?

Never mind, let me play with it first! Or rather, I am doing quality control. See how I am inspecting every inch of the dress? :)

Okay, now it is ready for me to try on. Do I look pretty?

Like my pose? Future Malaysia's next top model!
