Poor little Hannah!

Poor little princess is not feeling too well. She had fever on Sunday night after getting her injections and her fever was up and down up until last night when it finally subsided.

She was still having fever yesterday evening when we came back from work, even though she had been taking Panadol regularly, so we took her to see Dr Mary. The good thing about Adventist Hospital is that they have pediatric night clinics from Sundays to Thursdays so it is convenient for working parents like us.

On top of the fever, she also had diarrhea. Dr Mary suggested that we switch her to a soya formula instead of her regular formula and if she still has watery stools 3 times after taking the soya formula, then to give her diarrhea medicine. The doctor said her diarrhea is caused by a virus and it was probably because she is always putting her fingers into her mouth. She might have touched something unclean which caused her to have diarrhea. I did wonder was it because of all the food that we let her taste on Saturday but it is unlikely because she only had diarrhea on Tuesday so there is too long a gap for it to be caused by the food.

So we had a few sleepless nights, getting up to check her temperature and to feed her water regularly. Thank God that her fever finally subsided last night so now we just have the diarrhea to deal with.

This morning she was happily smiling and kicking as usual, so she should be alright and we just need to monitor her that she does not get dehydrated. Her Daddy is home with her today so she will get lots of attention and spoiling! :)

Her Daddy and I pray for her everyday that she will recover soon. We don't want to see our little girl sick and hope that she will soon be her normal, happy self!

Hannah's busy weekend

Hannah turned 4 months old on Saturday and to commemorate the event, a special event called "kui cho" or "breaking fast" was held for her. According to her Amah, this is a tradition practised by the Teochew people when babies are given different types of food to taste in order to wean them off milk and onto solid foods. The food is not eaten by the babies, just dabbed onto their lips for them to taste.

Each of the food given is significant in its own way. Hannah was first given a small piece of fish to taste. Fish symbolises wealth and prosperity. Next up was the chicken tongue. This was so that she can be eloquent in her speech! Amah told her so that she can talk like a lawyer like her Mummy and Daddy. Haha. The last was a tiny bit of chicken meat. There was nothing really special about that but since the whole chicken was already steamed, might as well let her try some!

Her expressions while tasting the food were really funny. It was as if she was wondering what are these strange tastes and her face wrinkled up when she tasted them. The pictures taken are a bit shaky because she was moving around a lot!

When it was over, we got to take a rare family photo. Oh, by the way, did we mention that she likes cheese cake? We put a little bit on a spoon for her to taste and she licked the spoon clean :) In any event, Hannah will only start eating solid food proper when she is 6 months old. For now, she still needs to drink her milk milk!

On Sunday morning, it was time for her to see Dr Mary to get her injections. I took a photo with her before we left for the hospital. At the hospital, she was happily smiling away even when the doctor was measuring her height and head. Up until she got her injections, that is. The moment the needle pricked her, she opened her mouth and wailed. She got two injections so two big fits of crying. Soon after that, however, she calmed down. She slept all the way home in the car. Poor baby.

In the afternoon, after her nap, it was time for Hannah's first proper haircut! Her Amah volunteered to take up the job so Daddy carried Hannah while Amah tried to cut her hair. But she was wriggling around too much so not much could be cut off except from the front and back. The sides were a bit long too but couldn't really cut off much hair from there because we were afraid that the scissors might slip and cut her ear since she couldn't sit still.

The last picture is the finished product. See any difference? I don't really see much difference! :p

So it was a busy busy weekend for both Hannah and us! But it was a lot of fun (except when Hannah got pricked!). We look forward to many happy busy weekends with our little princess :)

Smile! Part 2

I was in such a good mood yesterday..see my big smile! It was a big smile complete with me sticking out my tongue! Haha..

See my other big smile :)

And my cheeky smile :)

Mummy and Daddy had to go for Uncle Szu Fu's birthday celebration last night. This was taken at the place where they had dinner; Seoul Garden at Gurney Plaza. The food was good so they were smiling too!

Look at all the yummy food..

Mummy and Daddy took a group photo with their friends outside the restaurant. Everyone was smiling because it was a happy occasion.

Big smiles all around! :)

Hannah and Pooh

Let me introduce you to another good friend of mine, Pooh! He belonged to Mummy before but now she has given him to me. Isn't he cute??

Pooh and I like to play together..see, we are the best of buddies!

And we especially like to watch cartoons on TV! I think we are watching Playhouse Disney in this photo. The show was "My Friends Tigger and Pooh". Pooh is rather vain so he likes to watch himself on TV :)

As you can see, I love Pooh a lot!

P/s: I even have Pooh on my Mamy Poko disposable diapers, can you see it?? Don't tell him though! Hee hee.. :p

Just me, Hannah

As usual, Mummy is at home with me on Saturday mornings, so she does what she likes to do best: taking my photos!

Today it was just me; no ball, no Kiwi, no Duck Duck and no Frog Frog. Just me, Hannah!

However, despite Mummy's best efforts, I wasn't in a smiley mood this morning, so I just looked seriously into the camera like I always do.

Oh well, maybe I will reward Mummy with a smile some other day!

Baby Hannah and her Kiwi

My name is Hannah and this is my friend Kiwi. He came all the way from Aunty Jessica in New Zealand. Aunty Jess is Mummy's cousin and she is studying dentistry in Otago. Mummy tells me that Kiwis are famous in New Zealand.

Nanna says I have more hair than Kiwi. Really Nanna? Maybe on my head I have more hair, but Kiwi has hair all over his body...so who actually has more hair? :) Hee hee..

Everyone, say hi to Kiwi!

Kiwi, say hi to everyone! If you want to be my friend, you have to be polite, understand?

I have other toys too, but today I like Kiwi. See my ball has been thrown to the background.

Okay then, that's enough from me and Kiwi for now; we want to go and play. I am getting impatient..see my face? So we'll see you all next time! Goodbye!

My happy weekend

I had such a happy weekend yesterday and today.

I played with Frog Frog...

I played with Duck Duck...(looks like I sayang Duck Duck more :p)

I wore a new dress which Aunty Chia Yin gave to Mummy and Daddy before I was born. It's such a pretty dress that Mummy and Daddy wanted to save it for a special occasion, but I might outgrow it by then so they let me wear it first.

I took photos with Mummy (again!). Heheh.

Daddy and Mummy also brought me to makan at Old Town. I was sleeping when we arrived but I woke up half-way through the meal.

I took a photo with Daddy (too many already! :p)

I also took a photo with Pei Yi Jie Jie but I was looking at Daddy's drink...yum yum! Daddy, can I have some?

And I took a photo by myself. I'm looking at something up in the sky. It's a bird, it's a plane, it's...

My happy weekend!

Baby in the cradle

The traditional cradle used by our mothers and grandmothers (Hokkien called "eo na") was never an option for us to use for Hannah. The doctor advised against it as it could cause injury to the baby's neck and many a time, babies have fallen out of the cradle, causing serious injury and even death.

We have also read articles saying that it could cause injury to the baby's brain because the up and down motion of the cradle is akin to that of shaking the baby, hence causing shaken baby syndrome.

However, the old folks say that sleeping in the cradle will cause the shape of the baby's head to be nicely rounded and also that babies will automatically fall asleep because the feeling of being in the cradle is similar to that of someone holding them close. It also gives them a sense of security and they are not easily startled when they are sleeping.

But anyway, the risks seemed to outweigh the advantages so we decided we did not want it for Hannah. However, just for the fun of it we put her in it the other day just to see what she thought about it.

She did not seem to show any reaction at first, just a bit puzzled as to why we were putting her in this thing.

Huh? What is this ?

Hee hee..take me out Mummy, I don't really like it...

While she was in the cradle, she was preoccupied with putting her fingers in her mouth. Nowadays, her fingers can go all the way into her mouth to the extent that she can choke on them. So we have to keep a watchful eye on her. As a result, the amount of drool which is produced is immense! The front of her shirt is drenched most of the time. Everyone says she looks like she is eating KFC drumstick!

In the meantime, let me eat my fingers first. KFC is finger licking good!

She can really enjoy herself doing this. Hopefully the habit will not be too hard to break once she can understand us.

So yummy! Don't you agree?

So, the conclusion is, no "eo na" for Hannah. It's too dangerous if we cannot keep watch on her the whole time, as well as it may potentially cause hidden injuries to her brain. Anyway, her Daddy's arms are always there for her and they are better than any cradle any day! :)

My last pose..it's goodbye to the cradle after this! :)

Smile! :-)

It was the long weekend again just last week, so Daddy and Mummy got to spend lots and lots of time with me. They played with me at home, and brought me out kai-kai to Youth Park (but I was grumpy then and wanted to go home).

On Monday they brought me to Ah Mah's house and in the evening, I was happily smiling and playing. I was in the best of moods Mummy and Daddy had ever seen :)

Mummy and Daddy say I should smile more because I look so pretty when I smile:

Do you agree?

And this is the biggest smile I have given to-date!

Daddy was playing with me; I was so excited.

Now tired already, so Mummy can smile instead!

Which hairstyle is nicer?

My hair is now growing longer, so Mummy and Daddy are able to comb it in different styles when it is wet (when it is dry it's all the same :p) Daddy says he will take me for a haircut when I am four months' old.

Mummy likes to comb the goody-goody look for me. See, I look so "kuai" with my all my hair combed flat. Doesn't my face look so innocent??

Daddy, on the other hand, likes me to have a more punky hairstyle. Look at my Fido Dido hair. Now I look more cheeky :)

Oh well, if all hairstyles also not nice, then just cover it up with a cute hat!

Little Hannah went to Youth Park

This morning Hannah woke up very early, surprisingly, and she did not go back to sleep after her early morning feed, which she usually does. So we decided to take her out to Youth Park for some fresh air.

This is actually the first time that we have brought her out to a public place, but we were still rather apprehensive due to the A(H1N1) virus.

So anyway, we packed up our things and took her out. We were hoping that she wouldn't get cranky because at that time was usually her mid-morning nap time. All the same, she wasn't too happy, however, probably because she indeed wanted to sleep, and also because of the new environment. So we were there probably about 15 minutes only and then decided to take her home. After having her milk in the car, she slept all the way home.

We took some photos at Youth Park this morning. See her face. Not happy! So garang...

She was quite contented for awhile when I took her to sit on the swing. She probably liked the movement going back and forth.

Mummy and Daddy managed to snap a few photos with Hannah, and then it was time to go home!
